Maintenance is more critical than repairing machines, and electric forklifts are no exception. Therefore, we must pay attention to the routine daily care of electric forklifts in everyday life to effectively reduce the loss of electric forklifts and increase their service life. Hualong will briefly introduce the parking and storage of forklifts.
(a) Park the forklift on level ground, preferably in a spacious place. If you have to park on a slope, you must pull on the parking brake and block the wheels with wedges to prevent accidental slipping. It is strictly forbidden to park forklifts on large slopes.
(b) The forklift is parked in a designated area or a place that does not hinder traffic. If necessary, set up signs or signal lights around the forklift.
(c) Park the forklift on hard ground and avoid stopping on soft, muddy, or slippery roads.
(d) If the lifting system is damaged and the fork cannot fall to the ground, hang a warning flag on the end of the fork and park the forklift in a place that does not hinder traffic.
Forklift storage
Before storing the forklift, clean it thoroughly and check it according to the following procedures:
(a) As needed, use cloth and water to remove oil and grease adhering to the forklift body.
(b) When cleaning the forklift body, check the forklift’s overall condition, whether the forklift body is dented or damaged, whether the tire is punctured, and whether there are nails or stones embedded in the pattern.
(c) Fill the fuel tank with the designated fuel.
(d) Check for oil leakage.
(e) Add grease as needed.
(f) Check whether the joint surface of the hub nut and the piston rod of the oil cylinder is loose and whether there are bruises and pull marks on the surface of the piston rod.
(g) Check whether the mast rollers rotate smoothly.
(h) Raise the lifting cylinder to the top to fill the cylinder with oil.
(i) In winter or cold season, long-term antifreeze does not need to be drained; if it is cooling water, it needs to be drained.
Daily storage
(a) Park the forklift at a designated place and use wedges to cushion the wheels.
(b) Put the shift lever in the neutral position and pull up the parking brake lever.
(c) When the key switch is in the “OFF” position to turn off the engine, operate the multi-way valve lever several times to release the remaining pressure in the cylinder or pipeline.
(d) Remove the key and store it in a safe place.
Long-term storage
Perform the following maintenance and inspections based on the “daily storage” maintenance:
(a) Taking into account the rainy season, park the forklift on high and hard ground.
(b) Apply anti-rust oil to exposed parts such as cylinder piston rod and shaft that may rust.
(c) Cover parts that are prone to moisture.
(d) The forklift is started at least once a week. If the cooling water is drained, add cooling water, remove grease on the piston rod and shaft, start the engine and thoroughly warm-up, let the forklift run back and forth at a slow speed, and operate the hydraulic control several times.
(e) Avoid parking the forklift on smooth roads such as asphalt in summer.
Operation of the forklift after long-term storage
(a) Remove rust preventive oil from exposed parts.
(b) Drain the oil from the engine’s crankcase, drain the gear oil or hydraulic transmission oil in the differential, hydraulic transmission, clean the inside and add new oil.
(c) Remove foreign matter and water from the hydraulic oil and fuel tanks.
(d) Remove the engine cylinder head, valve, rocker shaft and check whether the clearance of each valve is standard.
(e) Add coolant to the specified liquid level.
(f) Carry out the pre-start inspection carefully.
(g) Preheat the forklift.
Caveat
As long as it is found that the forklift needs to be repaired, failed, or has unsafe factors, the situation should be reported to the management personnel, and the forklift should be stopped until it is restored to safe.
